Unit 1A ~ Week 1

MANDATORY CLASS ORIENTATION: Before starting this first unit be sure that you have completed (or will complete by the deadlines) the day 1 and day 2 orientation items in your online classroom including the required Assignment #1 (posting your intro) and Assignment #2 (submitting your class commitment statement). The first week has five very specific short assignments with strict deadlines, but these first two are absolutely mandatory to avoid being dropped from class.

Details for Orientation Assignments #1-5 are provided in the neon green blocks in WAMAP. Do all 5 assignments by their deadlines to earn the full 10 points.

OK? Let's get started on the course content!

TOPIC: Solving Advanced Equations

Unit 1B ~ Week 1

TOPIC: Compound and Absolute Value Inequalities
  • Check for new Class Announcements and your Clark Student Email.

  • Read Lesson Notes #1.2

  • MyMathLab: Study e-text section 1.7

  • WAMAP: Read posts on DB1.

You do not have to post on the Week 1 Discussion Board (DB1), but I do recommend you read all the posts there. There is NO class participation requirement (CPRs) in week 1. Orientation assignments #1-5 replace CPRs in week 1. CPRs will start in week 2 at which time you will be expected to participate on the weekly discussion board at least 2 days a week. Want more info about CPRs now? See Class Calendar Unit 2B.

  • Prep for and take Quiz 1!

    Information about the Quiz:
What sections does it cover? Only "Unit 1" material. QUIZ 1 covers e-text chapter 1 mostly 1.6-1.7.
When is the quiz open? 9 am on Thursday of week 1.
When is it due? It must be completed and submitted by deadline 9:00 pm Saturday of week 1.
How long do I get to take it? 45 minutes.
Must it be taken in one session? Yes. You cannot leave the quiz and come back to it or you will get "locked out".
How many times can I take it? Two times and only your best of the two scores will count.
How may questions will it have? It will say before you start the quiz but usually around 13 questions.
What if I miss the quiz? The lowest FOUR of ten quizzes get eliminated, so missing up to four quizzes is OK.

Before you take the quiz READ the "Quiz 1 Tips" post (WAMAP >> Week 1 DB) which will be posted by Thursday morning.
