Overview

In this lesson we solve equations that contain exponential or logarithmic expressions. Focus on knowing how to solve each of the basic types of equations and which processes to use on which equation. Try a variety of problems so you get to solve both exponential and logarithmic equation using several different methods!Fill your algebra toolbox with a variety of solving techniques to build a foundation in preparation for solving more complicated equations in a precalculus course.

Objectives

By the end of this topic you should know and be prepared to be tested on:

• 13.4.1 Solve logarithmic equations algebraically by converting to exponential form and via properties of logs
• 13.4.2 Solve exponential equations algebraically both those that have the same base throughout and those that have different bases within the equation
• 13.4.3 Solve exponential and logarithmic equations graphically by graphing electronically finding either the x-intercept points or intersection points as appropriate to the equation
